We have compiled the questions our patients most frequently ask in the field of ENT. You can find answers to many questions you may have about diagnosis, treatment processes, and procedures in this section. For more questions and detailed answers, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
Tinnitus, medically known as tinnitus, can develop due to many different causes. Exposure to loud noise, earwax, ear infections, blood pressure problems, and inner ear damage are among the most common causes. It can also be seen as a side effect of stress and some medications. If you have tinnitus, it is important to consult an ENT specialist.
Sinusitis is a condition caused by the inflammation of the sinus cavities. Nasal congestion, facial pain, headache, and postnasal drip are its most prominent symptoms. Acute sinusitis is usually treated with antibiotics and nasal sprays, while chronic sinusitis may require surgical intervention. Early diagnosis is crucial in the treatment of sinusitis.
Nasal congestion can be caused by many factors such as allergies, flu, sinusitis, turbinate hypertrophy (enlarged nasal concha), or deviation (deviated septum). The treatment method varies depending on the underlying cause. While nasal decongestant sprays provide short-term relief, a detailed examination by an ENT specialist is essential for persistent blockages. Surgical operations may also be preferred when necessary.
Rhinoplasty, or nose aesthetic surgery, can rarely lead to breathing problems. However, this situation usually stems from technical errors during surgery and can be corrected with revision operations. For successful aesthetic and functional outcomes, a physician experienced in both aesthetic and functional ENT surgery should be preferred.
Postnasal drip is characterized by the sensation of mucus flowing from the back of the nose down the throat. Allergies, sinusitis, reflux, and infections are among the most common causes of postnasal drip. Treatment usually involves nasal sprays, allergy medications, and antibiotics if necessary. For persistent postnasal drip, it is essential to see an ENT doctor.
Ear pain can arise from many different causes, such as outer ear canal infections, middle ear inflammation, dental problems, and jaw joint disorders. Severe, persistent, or ear pain accompanied by hearing loss should be taken seriously and must be evaluated by an ENT specialist.
Avoiding loud environments, paying attention to ear hygiene, undergoing regular audiological check-ups, and using hearing aids if necessary can help slow down the progression of hearing loss.
While dizziness is a general feeling of imbalance, vertigo is a specific type of dizziness where a person feels as if their surroundings are spinning. It usually originates from inner ear problems.
